Rainer Schuelein TOP WIND Flute Prize
29th April 1999.
At the London College of Music 2, Vestry Hall. Raleigh Road, Ealing.

We'd like to thank everyone that took part in the prize.
Here's a photo of them all...

Thanks to Sebastian Bell for adjudicating the prize. His wealth of knowledge and insight into the world of playing both orchestral music and solo music was most appreciated. (Bas is currently head of wind at the Royal Academy of Music and is principal of the London Sinfonietta)
Students able to enter are second and third years only.
Throughout the morning we heard a versatile repertoire including works from Bach, Donhanyi, Muczynski, Copland, Dutilleux, Poulenc, Berio, Milhaud, Heath and Clarke.
Students where encouraged to provide a CV (a good introduction to auditions in the 'real world'!!)

The competition was close but an outright winner was chosen. The prize went to Katherine Stensrud. We'd like to congratulate Katherine and all the other players in the prize and wish them every success for the future.

Here is the winner (Katherine Stensrud) with Sebastian Bell

A bit of background into the prize for you. Patrick Onn along with Debbie Tulloch of Top Wind both studied at the LCM. (At different times of course!) A few years ago it was decided that it might be a good idea to put something back into the establishment. The college had no flute prize so it was an easy decision. Patrick studied with Rainer whilst at the college. Rainer is also a good friend of Top Wind and a long standing member of the LCM staff he was the perfect candidate to hold the prize name. Thanks to Rainer for a reason to do this...

Here's Rainer with Patrick at the Pub garden! It certainly was time for a drink after all the hard work...
